Praise The Raise

By Christian Ayerst · Oct 28, 2021

In today’s budget, the Chancellor will raise the national Living Wage from £8.91 an hour to £9.50. Gigl is thrilled by this development - which effectively gives everyone receiving the Living Wage an additional £1,074 per year. Whilst the total benefit of this increase may be reduced by other changes (such as inflation, tax rises) - it is a positive step and at gigl we can’t wait to help great businesses and people find each other through 60-second videos!

Rishi Sunak will today announce an increase to the Living Wage of 6.6% - from £8.91 per hour to £9.50 - amongst other changes to the hourly rates set-out below:

Living Wage - from £8.91 to £9.50

Minimum Wage (Ages 21 to 22) - from £8.36 to £9.18

Minimum Wage (Ages 18 to 20) - from £6.56 to £6.83

Minimum Wage (Ages 16 to 17) - from £4.62 to £4.81

Minimum Wage (Apprentices) - from £4.30 to £4.81

At gigl, we’re delighted to see the government act on the recommendations made by the Low Pay Commission and reward those whose work is critical to the health of the UK economy.

We recognize that this pay increase comes with an additional burden from employers - who ultimately bear the costs of funding these increases. We understand that the government is reviewing other ways of easing the burden on employers (such as an adjustment to taxes) - however no firm announcements have been made yet.

So it’s more important than ever that employers made the right hires - and at gigl we’re proud to match great personalities with great roles - through video applications!

Why? Because businesses need great people - who love the role, are part of the team and are passionate about excellent customer service. Add these ingredients together - and the cost of the pay increases is quickly outweighed by the additional revenue.

And that’s what the gigl experience creates. No more time lost as a hiring manager - a 60-second video tells you immediately if a candidate is a great fit for your business. And as a job-seeker? Use your 60-second video to prove your passion, dedicate and drive to the business.

We’re already proud to be 2021 London Living Wage Champions - helping some great London Living Wage-paying employers find great people. And we think that these increases will encourage people to apply for roles which they might not have previously considered.

And whether you’re a small business looking to hire great people, or a candidate looking for work - gigl is the perfect place to find each other!
